GRANT FOR SOLDIERS AT ROTORUA

WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Advisory Board of Patriotic Societies decided to strike a levy of £500 a year on the patriotic societies of the North Island as a contribution to the Soldiers' Benefits' Fund at Rotorun. The board passed ft resolution that it was of opinion that it was not prudent for patriotic funds to be used to assist the building of permanent soldiers' clubs. The following motion was carried :—" That the federation- regrets that the Government cannot ego its way, to carry 'out tho board's resolution with regard to capitalisation of improvements." A resolution advocating that any gift for the benefit of soldiers given during the lifetime of the donor, or after the donor'a death, should be exempt from duty, was also passed.
