RETURNED SOLDIERS' HOSTEL.
Sir, —We must be ready to receive our men now returning in a fitting manner, and remember they depend upon 'our keeping the promise given whan they left our shores to look after them on their return, should they need it. We cannot flatter ourselves much ha«. been done so far in i that direction, if w> except the gathering lof large sums of morey. it is now plainly ! our duty to see the funds are used to the 1 best advantage for this purpose. Why not I get into working order a building large j i enough to house comfortably our wounded, j j with good, open outlook and plenty of , land, standing high and healthy, net,] I isolating the inmates, but near enough to i humanity for the men to feel themselves in touch with life and friends? Peace celebrations might be utilised for the purpose of getting sufficient money for a working fund, instead of wasting any more money on useless processions, decorations, etc.; the public is in no mood for that nonsense these times. Surely there are i enough public-spirited men to move in I this matter and get. it well under way | before leaving for their holidays, while chosen women can for once forego their Christmas vacation, and devote the time to preparing and getting into working order the housing and caring of our brave j ones. Why not make it our memorial | Lauretta Cambridge, i
