ENFORCING TURKISH COMPLIANCE WITH ARMISTICE.
EVACUATION OF MESOPOTAMIA AND SYRIA. CIVIL ADMINISTRATION BY BRITISH OFFICERS. Australian and N.Z. ond Router. (Reed. 6.6 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 16. The War Office announces that with a view to securing compliance with the armistice terras by Turkey, the Allies required the Turkish forces to evacuate Mosul Villayet, on the Tigris, clearing the town of Mosul before November 16. British political officers will be appointed to control the civil administration. The armistice also requires Turkey to evacuate the Caucasus and north-west Persia, withdrawing her forces behind the pre-war frontiers, with similar withdrawals in Syria. The terms also include immediate demobilisation. British and French troops occupied Alexandretta on November 10. There has been delay in carrying out the armistice in Arabia owing to the difficulty of communicating with several Turkish commanders, but this is being overcome by wireless.
