INFLUENZA DIAGNOSED.
THREE SEPARATE TYPES. Reporting upon the epidemic, Major Hurley, Government bacteriologist states:— " The epidemic is du.» to the true influenza bacillus as known to science, but there are three types of the disease mainly produced by it in the present epidemic. In the first type influenza bacilii are the organisms that are mninlv present. These are the mild cases. In the second type, influenza bacilli are aresent, but as a rule they are not so numerous as the organisms of pneumonia, which are also present. Tins is a more severe type, of infection, and relapses frequently occur. The third type presents both these organisms and other pathodemic organisms that are commonly present in severe colds. These &n tile most seveie types. In some severe cases of this type a septodiplococous occurs that has been | present in New Zealand for the past three I years at least." j
