PEACE PROBLEMS TO FACE.
.WHAT GERMANY MUST PAY. AMERICAN "SPECULATION. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Nov. 12. The Washington correspondent of the New York Evening Sun says that it is estimated that Germany will be compelled to pay £2,000,000,000 indemnity for damage to Allied property on land and sea. Such an indemnity would be about half Germany's present national wealth. It is considered that Belgium will receive £350,000,000 and France between £400,000,000 and £500,000,000. British merchant fleet' losses are estimated at about £550,000,000. The Allies' merchant fleet losses are estimated at £100,000,000, while the damage done to Russia, Bervia, Roumania, Montenegro, and other small allied nations would complete tho total. Senators, congressmen, and officials, interviewed, state that tho terms are satisfactory.. Some think them tantamount to unconditional surrender. Senators point out that the Alii must now face peace problems of reconstructing the world. The newspapers in New York and elsewhere hail the terms and cessation of the conflict with great enthusiasm. They point out that peace .terms Will set forth more complete reparation by Germany for the, wrongs done. What is going to happen at the peace table will depend on the fibre of the Allies more than on Germany and her beaten vassals. The full fruits of victory will only be achieved by Allied harmony at the peace table.
