SAVAGE CLUB CONCERT.
A thoroughly enjoyable concert was given in the Town Hal! If.st evening, under the auspices of the Auckland Savage Club. The promoters exhibited excellent taste in the selection of items, and the concert may be counted as one of the most successful iumtions of its kind given in Auckland recently. The proceeds were in aid of the Church Army Hut Fund, and, although the attendance was affected by the prevailing epidemic, the number of tickets sold should ensure a substantial sura being secured. An excellent model of a Church Army hut was placed in the centre of the platform and attracted a good deal of attention. The concert commenced with the well-known overture, "Poet; and Peasant," by the club's orchestra. Vocal items were given by Messrs. A. H. Ripley, J. Ryan, T. 0. Seaton, H. K. Gilmour, F. 0. Bourkoand J. Watkinson. The Savage Club choir tunefully sang a glee, " Sabbath Call." Mr. E. McCormack sang " Mollis Darling," and was assisted by the choir in the chorus. Mr. N. Heath gave a character recital, " Tommy Atkins. The secretary of the club, Mr. F. J. Whittaker, entertained the audience with some wit and humour. The orchestra played a plantation sketch, " Swanee River." The orchestral pieces were conducted by Mr. Colin Muston. Mr. Cyril Towsey played the accompaniments. In the course of the concert the Rev J. R. Burgin, organiser of the Church Army Hut Fund, thanked the club for ita efforts and the audience for its patronage.
