W.C.T.U. CONVENTION.

The Auckland district convention of thtf W.C.T.U. was held at the Central Mission 'Hall- on Wednesday. Mrs. J. Cook, district president, presided. Satisfactory reports were received regarding the work of the various branches during the year. The fact that the membership wa# gradually increasing was held to be a public recognition of tne union's usefulness. Approval of tho action of the Government in closing licensed bars on the arrival of troopships was placed on record. A resolution on, the matter asked that the area of the prohibition be extended and that oil hotels ba laced out of bounds on such occasions, ther resolutions endorsed the proposal to appoint women police, and asked for an amendment of the law bo as to provide for the return of women as members of Parliament. A resolution approving of the proposals of the National Efficiency Board on the liqtior question was passed.
