GIFT TO THE CITY.
OFFER BY MR. JOHN COURT, PLAYGROUND FOR CHILDREN. An offer to provide the equipment for a children's playground at Victoria Park, at a cost of £1500, has been made to (he Mayor of Auckland by Mr. John Court. j Mr. Court proposes that the playground be equipped as follows —Shelter shod, 40ft by 25ft, and lavatories, £350; two sand pits, £50; wading pool, £130; one small chute, £10; one medium chute, £25; see-saws, £25; swings, £26'; chair swings, £36; two rock-a-byes, £140; combination see-saws, swings, and chutes, £155) giant stride, £40; merry-gc-ron- ;, £120; fountain fishery, £100; two children's bubble fountains, £13; tar and sand, £300. • • The Mayor announced to the City Council last night that ho had received the letter containing the offer from Mr. Court only that afternoon, and it would come formally before the council at. its next meeting, but he wished to make the council aware informally of Mr. Court's generous offer. The council received the announcement of the offer with applause.
