REVIEW OP YEAR'S OPERATIONS,
The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held yesterday, ,the Rev. G. Bond presiding.
The report stated that, as a result of the year's work, £1080 had been remitted to London, this amount including the late Miss A. E. Wilk's legacy of £743. Versions of the Scriptures had been published in seven additional tongues. The year's issues by the society totalled 9,539,235 copies. Contributions rose to £93,096, the highest amount in the society's history.
The Rev. Q. Budd said he considered that the branch could not congratulate itself on the result of the year s work. The excuse that the committee had held no regular meetings owing to the continuance of the ''far was a poor one. Instead of 10 lady collectors there should bo 100. The election of officers resulted: —President, Dr. A. W. Averill, Anglican Bishop of Auckland; vice-presidents, Canon Haaelden, the Revs. I. Jolly and 6. Bond, and Mr C. E. Button; committee,' the Revs. W. E. Gillam, G. Budd, J. W. Shaw, F. Warner, J. Wilkinson, C. H. Garland, Messrs. A. Macdonald, J. H. Gregory, J. M. Barr, C. J. Tonka. R. Laidlaw, J. W. Court, W. R. Wilson, H. B. Burnett, A. E. Lavry, J. W. Stewart, A. Wilson, and H. Field. Addresses were given by the Revs. P. H. Spencer and A. T. Thompson, who weed that the branch Bhould appoint a paid secretary, an Executive Committee, and a Literature Committee. It was proposed to make an appeal throughout New Zealand at a date to be arranged.
