RAPID PROGRESS IN SERVIA
GERMAN TROOPS JOIN RETREAT
TURKISH REMNANTS ISOLATED
A new attack east of the Moselle, beyond the line resulting from the advance at St. Mihiel, was launched by French and American forces on Wednesday. An advance resulted, all the first objectives of the attack being gained. The two Bulgarian armies retreating in Bulgaria are now severed, the Allies holding the whole of the Monastir-Prilep-Gradsko Road. The Cavalry is within 10 miles of the IshtipKuprulu line. The Servians have taken 13,000 prisoners and 170 guns, and advanced to a maximum depth of 60 miles since the offensive began. Despite the arrival of German reinforcements, the enemy is being compelled to continue the retreat northeast of Monastir. The Servians have enlarged their bridgehead north of the Vardar, and added to their gains on the Lower Tserna. Over 40,000 prisoners have so far been counted as a result of the successful operations in Palestine, while the captures in guns number 265. These guns are stated to represent practically all the artillery of the two Turkish armies shattered by General Allenby's attack. The enemy forces east of the Jordan are now cut into two sections and cut off from their base at Damascus. The Turkish centre near Maan is threat' ened by the British advance from Amman, and its position is critical. There has been further fighting in the St. Qnentin sector, the British having taken the village of Francilly-Selency, two miles west of the city, and captured 1000 prisoners and a number of machine-guns. Strong German attacks in the regions of Epehy and Moeuvres were broken.
