BOROUGH COUNCILS.
BIRKENHEAD. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, presiding. The Auckland Civic League wrote with regard to the proposed central railway station site, that the matter had been submit ed to the Society of Engineers for consideration, and a meeting of borough representatives interested would be ca;led to consider the best steps to take regarding the suggested sue. the council endorsed tho resolution of the Mount Eden. Borough Council urging in connection with the Auckland hydro-electric power scheme, that a conference of local bodies bo convened, at which the conservation of their interests may be considered. It was decided to obtain a report upon the practicability of forming a footpath through the council's property in Harbour View Road. The lease for five years of a playing ground in Little Shoal Bay Reserve to the Ramblers' Football Club was granted, providing the club maintained a healthy condition. It wa>i decided to recommend the Northcote Council to nppoint three members to s«t us a permanent committee with the j Mayor of Birkenhead and Messrs. F. .T. j Stewart and R. Taylor, in lieu of the present i committee. | TAKAPUNA. • l The Takapuna Borough Council met last i evening, tho Mayor, Mr. W. Blomflcld, pre- J siding. , I A complaint by Mr. Archer regarding the . improvements in Williamson's Avenue was referred to the Streets and Works Committee. I 'iho matter of erecting extra street lamps, , on which the (streets and Works Committee submitted a recommendation that the town clerk should ascertain the cost of tho lamps, j was referred back to the committee. i Retarding the meeting of ratepayers pro-1 posed by the Bayswaler and Belmont Rate- , 1 payors' Association, it was decided, after j considerable discussion, that, provided the I association paid the expenses of the hall, | the meeting would be held in that building, | otherwise a meeting would be held in the Council Chambers. Tho recommendation of the Loan Works Committee that Lake Road be formed and I completed in accordance with the engineer's scheme, but without tarring, was discussed at length. The committee's recommendation was adapted. • Tho recommendation of the Loan Works Committee that Quebec Road be metalled at a cost of £160 in place of £200 for tho road and footpath aa previously recommended, was adopted. A suggestion that the name of Hansen Road should be changed to Banders Road I was referred to the Streets and Works Com- j mittee with the recommendation that the name be changed. j
