FURTHER GIFT OF PAINTINGS.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A collection* of water-colour drawings and pencil sketches by Mr. Nicholas Chevalier, the well-known a-tist, who accompanied the 1 Duke of Edinburgh on his visit to New Zealand, was presented 'to the Dominion some years ago by his wife. Mrs. Chevalier died recently, and under the terms of her will the collection will be supplemented by further paintings, sketches, and drawings. These are at present in the High Commissioner's otiice, and will be kept there until after the war, owing to submarine risk
