LOCAL BODIES 1 SUPERANNUATION' t The operations of tbc National Provident Fund were discussed yesterday by the Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister in charge. The annual report submitted to a meeting of the board last week, said the Minis" ter. had disclosed a most satisfactory state of affairs, the progress made having been exceptional considering the present difficult times. The number of contributors was about 13.237, and the total fund amounted to £200,000.
Considerable progvc?s had been made | with the local authorities' superannuation j branch of the fund. Some of the larger local bodies in (he. Dominion had now enrolled staffs, and negotiations were in progress with other large groups with a view to incorporation in the national scheme. The pens'on and retiring allowances were based on rates somewhat similar (to those in force in the Public Service funds, and very liberal conditions applied in respect of widows and children. At the recent board meeting tables were adopted in respect of the employees of the Wellington City Council. Christehurch Tramways, Napier Harbour Board, and Thames County Council.
