(Seed. 11.40 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 7—ll-20 p.m. A French communique reports: French and American troops have crossed the Vesle and are maintaining themselves despite violent counter-attacks. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON. Aug. 7. The Allies have crossed the Vesle in greater strength than their * first crossings, which were made by light cavalry patrols. They have defeated enemy counter-attacks organised with tho object of thrusting them back across the river. Australian and N.Z. and Reuter. LONDON, Aug. 7. A French communique states: In the region of Montdidier we made local progress south of Framicourt and south-east of MesnilSt. Georges. We occupied the station at Ciry-Salsogne, six miles east of Soissons. We repulsed a local attack south of Auberive, in the Champagne.
