FORWARDING THE GUNS.
FRENCH OUTWIT ENEMY. LONDON. July 8. Mil, James Campbell, correspondent of the Times with the French army, states that | the French seem to have outwitted the enemy in introducing guns which can be brought forward during an advance. The Germans adapted a mine-thrower, fitted to wheels, of satisfactory range and destructiveness, but its weight was increased from 3201b to 5501b, and it fired 91b shells. The weight necessitated the reduction of mine throwers-to four a battalion. Tho majority of the French divisions arc now equipped with a gun weighing 2401b, firing a pound shell adapted to close shoot ing, and also two artillery sections with guns lighter than tho British Stokes guns, but with the same destructive force, at 1000 yds range. Compared with the mine throwers this armament can be more easily handled by infantry, and is moro practicable in open warfare
