CIVIL ENGINEERS' SOCIETY.
The first meeting of the Auckland Provincial District Branch of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers was held at the Government Bui' 'ings, Mr. G. T. Murray presiding. The election of officers resulted ae follows Chairman, Mr. G. T. Murray; hon, secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. H. Watkins; executive, the chairman and secretary and Messrs. A. J. Baker, Thos. MtFarlane, F. Shannon, A. G. Walker, and J. Wood. A vote of thanks wna accorded Messrs. G. T. Murray, Jaa. Tyler, and A. G. Walker, who had acted as provisional executive. It was reported that 32 members of the society had joined the branch out of a total of 51 cor. porate members resident within tho Auckland Province. The following papers were read and discussed:—"The Waikato River," by Mr. G. T.Murray; "Notes on Operations at Brickworks on Stratford Main Trunk Railway," by Mr. A. J.
