LONG-STANDING INTRIGUES
EMPRESS SEEKS DIVORCE.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 18.
The Hague correspondent of the New York Times gives details of recent scandals in the Austrian Court. He says he has been informed on high authority that in 1916 the Empress Zita desired a divorce owing to intrigues in which ladies of the Court were involved, but a reconciliation was effected. Six months ago she again applied to the Papal representative for a divorce, but the Pope disapproved. There is no doubt that tho Empress is involved in Catholic intrigues. The Empress is prostrated by tho reports of gcandals. It is believed that there is estrangement between her and the Emperor.
