(Mr. Haddow), architect, against Richard Webster (Mr. Ostler), clerk of works, to reduce the damages claimed from £600 to £49, with tho object of depriving the defendant of the right of having the casn tried by a jury, was heard in the Supremo Court yesterday before Mr. Justice Cooper in Banco. The original action was tried last August, before a Judge and a jury of 12, the plaintiff claiming £500 in respect of each of three alleged 'slander*. The jury found for tho defendant in reapcct to two of the alleged statements, and awarded the
