CITY EXPENDITURE.

YEAR'S ESTIMATE, £500,195.

A statement submitted by the Mayor to the City Council last night of the estimated gross expenditure by the council for the current year shows a total of £500,195. Of this sum £169,580 is administered by the Works Committee, £204,550 by the. Finance and Legal Committee, £57,378 by the Public Services •Committee, while £25,000 is devoted to the fish market. An amount of £20,000 is allocated to Grey Lynn in terms of the amalgamation agreement, the remainder being devoted to the Reserves and Library Committees. The Mayor said it was the first occasion the estimates had exceeded the half million mark, indicating that even in war time the council was pursuing a progressive policy.
