PAR NELL STREETS.
Sir, —About two wteks ago I noticed I that St. Stephen's Avenue, 'I'arncll. was | being tarred and sanded. It \va=> not so | very long iiijo that this road was previously j tarred and sanded, while several other | neighbouring streets, viz., Tikilapu Street, : Lichfield Road, ami (;'anvi;ic Terrace, ■ have not been attended to at all, except i every now and then at lengthy interval. i City Council men come and, after removing I a few of the weeds that crow thick upon j these roads, dump down isolated masses of I coarso stone, which play havoc with the i tyres of passing eyi les and mit-oi-cars. During a wet period a short time ago, there was mud in some cases 13in deep in the gutters. In some places there are no kerbs to the footpaths, and consequently the paths arc gradually disappearing with each fall of rain. Truly a sad plight for roads in this prosperous city of Auckland ! And surely an industrious City Council should be able to remedy them -«in somo degree !" Gerald Fitzsimmons. Farnell.
