June 8.—1.10 a.m. A French communique states : Between the Ourcq and the Marne we successfully continued local operations. French and American troops extended their gains from north of Cauly to Chezy-en-Orxois, and captured Veuilly la Poterie and Bouresches, appreciably improving the positions on the front from Torcy to Bouresches. Between the Marne and Rheims action against Blignv continued, resulting in the capture of the entire village with 200 prisoners. During the day 13 German aeroplanes were brought down and 27 tons of bombs dropped in the regions of Roye, St. Quentin, and Roissons, with good results. An earlier report stated : North of Montdidier and west of Novon we effected several successful coups de main and took prisoners. North of the Aisne, by a night attack, we captured the village of Le Port, west of Fontenoy. South of the Aisne we improved our positions south-east of Ainbleny. Between the Ourcq and the Marne we continued our local operations in the region of Veuilly la Poterie. We increased progress, captured the village of Vinly, north of the River Clignon, and also the wood? east of the station at Veuilly la Poterie. We also took possession of the outskirts of this village. Further south American troops gained ground on a front from Torcy to Belleau, to Bouresches. est of Chateau Thierry a spirited attack gave us Hill 90-4. Between the Marne and Rheims British troops regained a footing in the village of Bligny and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. An American official report states: In an attack north-west of Chateau Thierry on Thursday morning we, in conjunction with the French, advanced the line south of Torcy about a mile, capturing prisoners and inflicting heavy losses in killed and wounded.
