ARTILLERY ALONE ACTIVE ON BRITISH FRONT.
FRENCH FORCES IMPROVE THE FLANDERS LINE. Australian and N.Z. and Beuter. (Reed. 8 p.m.) LONDON. May 18.
Sir Douglas Haig reports at 9.40 o'clock this evening: Nothing is happening except reciprocal artillery activity. Mist is interfering with air work. We brought down four more enemy machines.
An earlier report states : In a successful local operation the French improved their positions north of Kemrael village. We repulsed a raid on the Ypres-Comines canal. The enemy artillery is active in the Ancre sector south of Albert and on our forward position east of Locon and south of Voormezeele.
