GENERAL MAHON HONOURED
'Received 8 p.m.) A. and N.Z.— Reuter. LONDON. May 12. General Sir Bryan Mahon, who hag just relinquished the command of the forces in Ireland, has l>een appointed a Knight Commander of the Bath. T.ieutenant-Oeneral Sir Bryan Wahon w,-.- appointed commander in-chief in lieland in 1916. He -is 55 years of aue, Mid hi*; army career extends back to 1833. He served in India, Egypt, the Soudan, and South Africa, and led the relief column to Mafeking. General Million was created C.R. in 1900 and K.0.V.0. in 1912. In the early day* of the war he was general iffi-er commanding the 10th. Irish. Division, and later served in the Gallipoli campaign. In 1915 he was appointed to command the British forces at Salonika, retaining the position until the time of his Irish appointment
