In the report of the Public Schools iiuijtiy Union meeting in' Thursday rrornlng s issue, Mr. is. W. Hayson, ho secretary of the Auckland Public Schools' iiusby Union, is reported to have stated that " a certain section of schoolmaster* referees had been endeavouring' to have the competitions played on week-days." Mr. Hayson writes stating that ho wishes it to be clearly understood that his remarks had reference to "a certain section of the assistant-masters," who " had been endeavouring to get the matches played during school-time." Mr. Hayson adds that the sporting masters fought hard, with th«. result that Saturday was retained, but wrtft. the compromise of one match a- fortnight. Schoolboys, he states, mi-st be kept aswi teurs at all costs.
UNDER LEAGUE RULES. MATCHES FOR TO-DAY. Newton will play Ponsonby at Victoria Park this afternoon. Other matches will be played.
