GERMAN PRISONER ESCAPES,
BOARDS A MOVING TRAIN. An interned German named Mam-ell Leo Mayu made a sensational escape from two military guards last week at Merrylands, Now South Wales. He was being taken to Holdsworthy from the Bathurst Gaol, and when between Granville and Merrylands lie complained of being unwell. As it was thought that he would get more fresh air on the rear portion of the carriage, his custodians allowed him to leave the carriago in their company. When the train had almost come to a standstill, a train going in the direction of Sydney passed slowly, and Mayu, making a "flying ■ leap, landed on one of the carriago plati forms. His custodians were unable to foll low, as by the time the rear end of the I next carriage pasned them the train had got considerable speed up, making it imj possiblo for them to follow.
