ROAD DIBTRIOT OR COUNTY?
EAST TAMAKI RESIDENTS' VIEWB- - meeting of the ratepayers of the East Tamaki Road District was held on Wednesday evening to discuss the question of merging the road district into tho Manukau County. Mr. R. O. Wallace, chairman of the Road Board, presided. He said that two ratepayers were now' obtaining signatures to a petition to the Manukau County Council to declare tho Road Board dissolved, and the road district merged into the county. He expressed the opinion that tho proper course would have been to call a meoting of the ratepayers first. After a lively discussion a resolution was carried by a substantial majority, disapproving of the action of the two ratepayers in raising the petition without being authorised. A further resolution was carried, adjourning discussion of the question for 12 months, to give the ratepayers time to assure themselves whether the proposed merging would be advisable.
