ASSAULT AT MOTUIHI.
PRISONER'S JAW BROKEN.
5 Mr •" «\^— •■; - * FELLOW-CAPTIVE'S \ ACT. ; *' A Gkbmak prisoner of war,, who, was in-, terned at Motuihi; has been an inmate of the Auckland Hospital since February 11, suffering from a fractured jaw. His injury is alleged to have been inflicted by a compatriot, also interned at the island. It will be remembered that at the official inquiry into the escape of Count von Luckncr and his party from Motuihi, evidence was given regarding a note of warn* ing which was left for (the authorities. ( Sfti far as can be ascertained, this mysterious! epistle created ill-feeling among some of the prisoners, who were concerned about its authorship. It is understood that one of the interned Germans, formerly a resident of Samoa, formed the suspicion thai an ex-Auckland resident sharing his captivity had written the warning note. He attacked the latter, and in the tussle that ensued broke his jaw. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the assailant, who will be charged at the Police Court with assault causing actual bodily harm.
