LOCAL CONTROL UPHELD. [BI TELEGRAM.— FRESS ASSOCIATION.] DCXEE'IN. Thursday. At a meeting of the Otago Education Board to-day exception was taken to a resolution carried at a recent meeting of the Educational Institute in Wellington urging the selection and appointment of teachers by the Department in Wellington. Several speakers condemned Departmental method?, and urged that boards and school committees, representing the parents, had a right to a voice in the appointment of hers, alike in the interests of teachers and of education. A resolution was carried setting forth that anv curtailment of the powers of boards anil committees in the appointment of ' teachers would be strongly resented.
