The criminal sittings of the Snpreiat., H Court were continued yesterday before Mr. I Justice Hosting.' • *' Albert < Crompton, who had . pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to cbargeufipl having forged his wife's name to (1) an order for redirection of her letter?, 1 and p| (2) an allotment order of the Defen||fj|| Department, came up for sentence. Mr.-';:* V R. Meredith, for the prisoner, - said. * • that his actions were not the result «f4. criminal intent, but of domestic imhappiv' ness. There had been unpleasantness be-' tween prisoner and his wife, and the latter 81 left him, taking away their children, 1® While practically demoted over 2 the- S| wrecking . of his home, and in the desire to see -his wife's letters, in order to assure himself whether there was ground for?£g|| suggestion that she had been seduced, away from him, he signed her name" to £ the redirection order. As to the allotment order, ; prisoner's motive in attaching to-' B wife's name to it was the desire to pro- i?tect her brother, whose money it represented. . On realising that he was n{ptjg| justified in his action he informed Defence Paymaster of what he had dqn e - .1; Being then advised by a solicitor to the money to his wife, he did so. His Honor agreed that prisoner's actons f'fJ showed : 110 " criminal instincts. Prisoner was placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to pay the costs of the pr? sß " cution, about £3. - ' ' 5 3p|j|H| David C. de Rungs, a lad, who bid been committed for sentence on a charge ;;; of making an alteration in an Education Department certificate of proficiency, alsfc, in his : certificate of birth, with intent w'v deceive * the " Railway Department, - k brought lip for sentence. Casey was -g brought up for sentence on a charge <« i,-g having, with another lad, broken into.the office of the Modern Chair Company and stolen. 6s in money.
