COST OP SOLDIERS' CLUB. The executive of the Auckland Provincial

Patriotic and War Belief Association met yesterday, Mr. J. H. Guns on presiding. In connection with the Soldiers' Club a statement of receipts and expenditure for the period April to September wag received from the secretary. The total receipts were £879 6s, made up as follows : —Cash in hand and balance at bank, £103 18s 7d; , teas. £284 6s 9d; billiards, £2112s 2d; tobacco, £2918s 6d; received from Patriotic Association, £250. The expenditure totalled £869 0s 3d, and was made up as follows:—Refreshments, £388 12s 8d; tobacco, £30 lis; ; .wages, £260; maintenance, £48 3s lid; sundries, £141 lis 9d. The chairman stated that £450 had been remitted to the secretary of the club to cover liabilities due shortly.' The chairman of the Soldiers' Club Committee, Mr. A. G. Lunn, stated that, the cost of the upkeep of the club was about £155 each month. The receipts approximated £90, leaving about £800 per annum to be made up in contributions. _ A request from the Cambridge Association that the executive, should approach other centres in the North Island, with a view to assessing the cost of the upkeep of a motor-car proposed to be run between Cambridge and Te Waikato Sanatorium . for- the • conveyance of soldier patients and their relatives, was deferred , until next meeting. A question of policy is involved, and the executive decided to ' consult . the Wellington, Wanganui, and : Wairarapa Societies regarding the matter. I A sum of £400 is in hand for the purchase ' of a car, £200 having been. received as: a grant from the Government. The annual cost of upkeep is estimated at £250. The _ payment of £166 2s 4d was authorised to. cover the cost of altering buildings for the reception of billiard tames, and for installing the necessary furniture at the annexe in the Domain, and at the Devonport Convalescent Home. It was decided to purchase for the use of soldiers at . the Wolff Home, near Avon l dale, a three-quarter size billiard table ; and a croquet and bowls set. 1 Colonel W. H. Parkes wrote acknowledging a further remittance of £100 for the ew Zealand • Hospital Extra Comforts Fund. It was decided to continue the payment of £100 each month to Colonel Parkes for this purpose, and to ask Colonel Parkes to state how the money is disbursed. i An application for a contribution to the regimental funds of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade was referred to the Auckland Women's Patriotic League. | The Relief Committee reported that, since the last meeting, 411 cases had been dealt with. Of this number 85 were new. | The amount disbursed during the month ■was £661 10s lid, and the association had received a sum of £192 4s Id in refunds. The Discharged Soldiers' Employment Department reported that since October 3 about 33 men had been placed in employment. More than 35 names of men requiring work had been added to the register. Thus work was still desired.
