MEN ; FOR 35TH DRAFT.

FAREWELL IN • THE CITY.

The quota 1 ; for } the ? thirty-fifth reinforcements ' from ■ the .Auckland military district commenced its journey to camp yeaterday. As the draft was an* unusually large one, 756 men proceeded to the various ■ camps, : the; men', were .despatched in two sections. A total of 580 left by. special train* at • 2.50 , p.m. and tho remainder by the ''express!"train" at 7.10 p.m. '.;' Tho men paraded at tho Drill Hall at 9.30 a.m. for roll call, those proceeding by the special train ; being \ dismissed \ until 1.30 p.m., and those going bv the express train until 6 p.m. The draft proceeding by tho special train left Rutland Street shortly after two o'clock., and marched to the station . hoaded '. by ' tho Coast Dcfenco; .Band.- Large crowds lined the route of march, while tho station _ was thronged by friends and relatives of the men. On tho former wero; two cartoons . containing greetings from the railway officials and employees, and wishing; tho. men a clear road to and from tho battle front. Major M. N.? Atkinson was. in chargo of the train, and .was assisted " by : Captain' A. Coutts and Lieutenant; J. IT. Stewart. Lieutenant W. G. Ivil was in chargo of the details for Featherston camp. ~'■ ', The draft .which left by tho express last 'evening left the Drill j Hall ' for the march through tho streets at about 6.30 p.m., headed by the Ponsonbv Drum and Fife Band. All the men travelling by tho express were for Trentham, Captain .0. T. Kretcluhar, assisted by Lieutenant N. C. Lynch, was in charge of the recruits.
