A British Admiralty report on the submarine campaign during the week ended October 14 '-gives, the ; following figures, those in : last' week's : report being given' in * parentheses. The returns are issued for the week-ending-3 p.m. on Sunday.; The figures give the arrivals and sailings of merchant vessels, of all nationalities, over 100 tons net, at and from United Kingdom ports, exclusive of the fishing and local craft, and the number of British merchant vessels sunk by mines or submarine, and unsuccessfully attacked by submarines:— Arrivals 2,12.1 (2,510) ' Sailings 2,091 (2,632) Sunk over 1600 tons ... 12 (14) Sunk under 1600 tons ... 6 (2) Unsuccessfully attacked 5 ' (3) lushing vessols sunk ... 0 (0) The following figures show the weekly losses since the Admiralty started issuing returns:—

The Themis, Norway's largest steamer, has been torpedoed in the Mediterranean. The sailing vessel Bethel has been sunk in the North Sea. In both cases the crews are missing.

The Themis was a steel screw steamer of 7402 tons gross. She was built in 1911 by Messrs. W. Doxford and Sons, of Sunderland, and was owned and registered in „ Christiana. The Bethel was a small wooden brig, built in 1868.
