POLICE COURT NEWS.
THEFT FROM EMPLOYER, CASE WITH SAD FEATTJEES. A young married man, Edward McMillan, was charged before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at'the ■ Police Court' on Saturday with having stolen on August 15, two bottles of .malted milk, one bottle of magnesia, a tin of'egg-preserver, and a tin of tanoil, of a total valu? of 1%, the property of Sharland and Co. He was further charged with having- stolon, on September 28, a case of condensed milk, •the property of the same firm. Accused pleaded guUty. i Chief-Detective McMahott said accused J who was employed as an assistant-packer, by Sbjarland and Co., had placed the easel of condensed milk on a van, which was being loaded for Onehunga, and instructed the driver to leave it at his,, accused's, home. Subsequently the driver communicated with his employer, and a3 the result of inquiries accused was arrested. A ■search of his home revealed the other stolen goods. The chief detective said McMillan was in a very light corner financially. His wife, two children, and himself were in very delicate health. It was significant that the goods stolen consisted entirely of nutritious foods, evidently taken on account of the illness v in the family. § ! Mr. Frazer said it was a sad case. In view of the exceptional circumstances he would deal leniently with accused by admitting him to probation for one year.
OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Percy Henry Smith, who-admitied having imed obscene language in Hobson Street, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on, conditional on his agreeing to the issue of a prohibition order.
