CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET. [I)T TELEGRAM.— ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Local millers are disturbed over the statement reported to have been made by the Minister for Agriculture that there was plenty of wheat in Canterbury, and that the next shipments of Australian wheat would go to other ports. The millers say they are in want of wheat as well as other centres. There is no business to report in connection with grain, and the oatsheaf market remains without change. A large quantity of potatoes have been, or are being, shipped to Auckland, consequently no fresh orders are coming from there. The local price still I remains 55s at country stations, but there is an easier tone in the market. HEAVY STOCKS OF POTATOES. [BY TELEGRAPH.— COEBESPON'.DENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The Minister for Agriculture is reported to ; have stated in the House of Representatives that ho had been advised that the potato season in Canterbury had not been good this I year, but that it was anticipated that there would be sufficient seed potatoes for planting as largo an area as last year. The fact is that there aro more potatoes in Canterbury at the present time than there have been at this period for some years past, and that main crop seed potatoes are so plentiful that there is practically no sale for them. The North Island has been, well supplied with the earlier varieties of seed, but the continued wet weather has interfered with planting operations. AUCKLAND INSTITUTE. «- A popular lecture on "Heredity" will be delivered in St. Andrew's Hall on Monday evening by Professor A. P. W. Thomas. Probably no scientific subject has attracted greater attention in recent years than that of heredity. Not only does it touch upon the future of man himself, but there is hardly any branch of biological research, either scientific or economic, that is not more or less influenced by it. The lecture, which will be illustrated by lantern slides, will be open to the public. A HAPPY CHILD IN A FfiW HOURS.
