AUCKLAND HARBOUR WORKS.
NEW CENTRAL WHARF. The Auckland Harbour Beard met yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Mr. H. D Heather, presiding Reporting on the Central Wharf, the engineer, Mr. W. H. Hamer, stated that the last pile was driven on August 13, and it was hoped that the whole work might be completed early in September. Fine weather would enable the asphalting to be pushed forward rapidly. The whole of the berths thrown open were fully occupied. Dredging had been carried out on the eastern side of the wharf, on the inner end, to a depth of 38ft below low water, and the rest of the berth had been cleared to 26ft at low water. The engineer also reported that the incessant ram and rough weather had interfered with the reclamation east of the city electrical power-station and the Beach Road excavation. Nevertheless, a steady advance had been made. Work' on the storm water sewer, St. George's Bay reclamation, had been completed The harbourmasters report stated that during July the shipping arrivals in the port showed a decrease of 94 vessels as compared with the corresponding period of last year. Departures showed a decrease of 67 vessels. At Onehunga departures and arrivals last month showed an increase of two vessels.
