SOCIETY OF ARTS.

The 36th annual meeting of the Auckland Society of Arts will be held on September 5. The annual report state.? that the exhibition this year was a greater success than was expected, the attendance exceeding that of last year. There is an increase in both honorary and working membership. Owing to further letting of the nailery and other parts of the building there is a very satisfactory rent-roll. The or-an-imation of practice groups for the benefit of art students is considered inopportune. The membership now consists of 47 life, 121 honorary, and 109 ordinarv members in good standing. The statement of accounts shows that a profit of £38 has been made on the annual exhibition. Receint* including balance of £114 from last vear were £844, and after pavment of all expenses a credit balance of £232 i 5 carried forward.
