Evidence of the recent earthquake is to be seen at Patea Heads, where there 3 a large fissure in the ground extending from the edge of the cliff near the river mouth ■to a dip in the cliff some distance back. The earthquake shifted portion of the new concrete wall, and water was found to be issuing through the fissure. The cliff as it now exists, constitutes a grave source of danger to the public using the beach
