GERMANS RENEW OFFENSIVE FROM FOCSHANI.
ROUMANIANS READJUST LINE FARTHER NORTH. Australian and N.Z. and Renter. (Reed. 11.50 p.m.) , LONDON. August 16. ussian communique states: The Roumanians, for strategical leasons, withdrew towards Soveja, in Moldavia, taking up a new me. We repulsed attacks in the Schitza Valley. The Germans renewed their offensive in the direction of Fochsani, and the Russians and Roumanians retired to the north-east. . * A German communique states: South of Straoani and Panciu Russian and Roumanian attacks failed.
The connecting link between the two lines of railway which serve the Roumanian front runs from Marasesci, 10 miles north of Focshani, to Tecuciu. The enemy has already reached the more westerly of the two railways at Focshani, and is attacking the connecting line. Soveja is north-west of Focshani, and was the scene of a successful Roumanian offensive a few weeks ago, the enemy being driven back several miles.
