RENEWED HEAVY FIGHTING ON CALIFORNIE PLATEAU.

FRENCH REPULSE VIOLENT ENEMY ATTACKS. Australian and N.Z. Cable and Renter. LONDON. July 23. A French communique states: German attacks, accompanied by violent bombardments, continued last night on the plateau near Craonne as far as the casemates on California Plateau. After a number of extremely violent attempts the enemy succeeded in penetrating our first line, but immediate vigorous counter-attacks ejected him from all but a small portion of the line. The struggle on Californie Plateau only ended late at night, Despite all efforts the enemy was unable to drive us off the plateau.

Australian and N.Z. Cable. (Received 11.30 p.m.) LONDON. July 24. A later French communique states: The' bombardment of our positions in the Hurtebise and Craonne region continues violently, especially, on the Californie Plateau. A German attack north-west of Mount Cornillet, in the Champagne, was completely repulsed. Our batteries are active against organisations in the Moronvillers region of the Champagne.
