CITY STREET NAMES.
ALTERATIONS CONFIRMED
The special order renaming certain streets In Auckland, made by the City Council on June 14. was before the council last night, and confirmed with some amendments. A motion was also carried changing the name of Durham Street, between Albert and Hobson Streets, to Kingston Street. Mr. W. San ford wrote protesting against the proposal to alter the name of York Avenue, Epsom, to Trent Avenue. The writer stated that he considered the proposal disloyal. He had named the street after the present Kins, on the occasion of His Majesty's visit try Auck land, when he was the Duke of York. On the motion of Mr. A. J. Entrican, the name York Avenue was retained. % Mr. W. J. Foote wrote protesting against changing the name of Cameron Road, Epsom, to Bruce Road. If carried into effect, he said, it would be the third change in name in six years. It would he far better known and found, he contended." if described as an extension of Ranfurly Road. This was approved. The change of name of Jermvn Street to Anzac Avenue having been effected, it was decided, despite protests received' at the previous meeting, to retain the latter name.
In reply to a question, the Mavor said all the plates bearing the old names of streets would be taken down as soon as possible.
