PARLIAMENT.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

PROMOTIONS AT THE FRONT.

[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. The debate on the Address-in-Reply was continued in the House of Representatives this evening by Sir John Findlay (Hawke's Bay). He was followed by Mr. T. A. H. Field (Nelson), who referred to discontent prevailing regarding promotions in the New Zealand force at the front. He asked why the Government did not get rid of General Godley, whom he blamed for the discontent.

Mr. E. Newman (Rangitikei) said he hoped there would be a return to party rivalry after the war. He strenuously opposed the imposition of an export tax, a graduated income tax being, in his opinion, the fairest method of taxation. Mr. Newman advocated keeping up the reinforcements, and redeeming the Dominion's obligations to the Motherland. The debate was adjourned, and the House rose at 10.15 p.m.
