PAYMENT OF TRAM FARE.

MAN CHARGED WITH EVASION. A man named Harry Bartnell came before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday, charged with having avoided paying his fare when travelling on a tramcar on June 9. It was stated that the defendant had boarded a car beyond the penny section of the Heme Bay tram route, and had declined to pay more that a penny for the journey to town. Hartnell in admitting the offence, explained that as there was no car at the pennv section, while three were waiting about 100 yards further back, he had gone back and boarded one of the waiting cars. As he had boarded the car between two stops and less than a stop beyond the section he refused to pay more than the fare for one section. The defendant was ordered to pay 28s costs.
