RECRUITING TENTS BURNED.
THREATS AGAINST OFFICERS. Australian and N.Z Cable Association. (Received 9.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, July IX. The burning of a recruiting tent has revealed the fact that a number of recruiting officers have received an anonymous letter threatening their lives.- if they persist in their efforts to enlist volunteers. THE NORTHERN TERRITORY. DR. GILRUTH REAPPOINTED. MELBOURNE. July IX. Mr. F. Glynn. Minister for Home Affairs, announces that Dr. J. A. Gilruth has been reappointed Administrator of the Northern Territory for an indefinite term, to last at least until the end of the war, at the same salary. Dr. Gilruth will drop the title of " His Excellency." FEDERAL POLICY MEASURES. MELBOURNE, July 11. In hi? speech at the opening of Parliament, the Go-General stated the Federal policy as forecasted regarding reinforcements, the curtailment of sport, the. employment of returned soldiers, the increase of the income tax and the war profits tax. the raising of war loans locally, the prevention of strikes and lock-outs affecting the prosecution of the war, and an extensive shipbuilding pro gramme.
