Thb review of the New Zealand troops on Salisbury Plain by the King on May 1, just prior to their departure for France where they participated in the great victory against the Germans at Messines, is profusely illustrated in to-day'a issue of tho Auckland Weeklt News. The series forms a most valuable record of an historic occasion, and will, no doubt be treasured by all patriotic New Zealanders Several scenes taken daring the Russian revolution, and just received by mail will also be viewed with interest. * A crowd of the soldiers and people making a bonfire of the Royal signs and crowns from the shopa is especially suggestive, while a further picture indicates the complete harmony which prevailed between the soldiers and the people during the fateful upheaval. Several pictorial subjects dealing with the allied activity on the western front are reproduced. In this connection a picture entitled " Mowing them Down" gives a graphic idea of the way the British troops in France repel a German counter-attack. A comprehensive view of war-battered Arras provides evidence of the ruin wrought by tho enemy, while several other aspects of the straggle are also pictured. " Into .Captivity" is a most striking subject, full of pathos, depicting as it does the deportation of Belgian women and girls by the Germans. Various aspects of the activities of Their Majesties the King tend Queen in England are interestingly portrayed, and the swearing-in of Earl Liverpool as Governor-General of New Zealand is of historic value. Among other subjects striking photographs of the sinking of the Australian transport Ballarat at the mouth Of the English Channel are reproduced, and in on© of these the troops can be seen getting into the boats as calmly as if on parade, thus being worthy upholders of the great Birkenhead tradition. The portraits of many New Zealand officers and men appear in this week 8 801 lof Honour. Portraits of M. Vemaelos, again Prime Minister of Greece, and of General John J. Pershing in command of the United States forces' In France, are also published.
