RESERVISTS' APPEALS.

BOARD'S NORTHERN TOUR. SITTING AT KAWAKAWA. [BY TSIEGTUr-B.— COIWESPO.VDE.VT.] KAWAKAWA, Saturday. The First Auckland Military Service Board held a sitting at Kawakawa on Friday evening. The appeals lodged by Leslie T. Blomfield, Rawhiti, Russell, IViUiam R. McKenzie, Okaih.au, Joseph K. Sturge, Okaihau, Ernest S. Nelson, Okaihau, and Michael W. Rice, Opua, were withdrawn, as appellants bad been classed for home service. Dawson Wynyard's appeal was allowed, the appellant proving that ho was a member of the native race. A. Faithfull, farmer. Horeke, appealed on the ground of public interest and tindue hardship. He had three brothers on active service, and was the sole remaining member of the family managing their farm of 1023 acres. The farm at present was carrying about 170 cattle, and also, until few weeks aj:o, over 1000 sheep, but at present only 409 sheep. He was also managing another property of 270 acres. He was carrying the place on at bis brothers' desire. Ho had no person capable of managing the farm, and did not think he could obtain one. The board adjourned tho case sine die. but cautioned the appellant that he would in all probability be called up before tho second division was drawn upon. In tho ncantime he must try to get someone to take the farm oveV. The appeal of John W. Graham, of Okaihau, on tho ground that ho was not a reservist, being over age, was adjourned to allow of further inquiry being made. Harold F. Guy, solicitor, Kaikohe, branch manager for Messrs. Parr and Blomfield, had an appeal lodged on his behalf by his firm for an extension of time in order to allow bin) to wind up the business at present in hand. Mr. E. C. Blomfield said Guy would be the seventeenth the firm had lost from their business for war service. The most of the work at their Kaikohe branch was native and involved work, and only Guy could bring it forward to such a etagti as to allow other members of their staff completing it. Exemption was granted till September 18. Walter Smith, Rolf Shortridge and John Frank Mitchell, who had been drawn in the last ballot, placed their cases before the board, stating that they had made formal appeals._ The board stated it could not give decisions in theso cases as the appeals were not before them, but on the evidence given intimated that in the case of Walter Smith it would bo to the effect that he was not a reservist, being a halfcaste. In Slmrtridge's case tlm appeal would be adjourned sine die, and the extension of time asked, to July 24, would be granted in the case of John Mitchell

The board left on Saturday morning for Rawene, where it will sit on .Monday.
