ENGINEDRIVERS TO CONFER.
REMITS FOR CONSIDERATION,
The annual conference of the New Zealand Federated Enginedrivers, Rive* Engineers, Creasers, and Firemen's Association will be held in Wellington on July 10. Remits in large numbers have been forwarded by the affiliated unions. The principal subject for discussion is the Inspection of Machinery Act, on which the following remits have a bearing From Auckland That the administration be discussed; that an applicant for a loco-* motive and traction enginedriver's certificate shall produce testimonials from a driver under whom he has served; thai the federation be represented on the Board of Examiners; that all engines and boilers shall bo in charge of certificated enginedrivers. From South Auckland * That a quarterly examination for certificates of competency be held in the principal mining centres. From Napier branJi, Wellington Union: That river certificate holders be allowed to ply with trawlers in any water on the New Zealand coast. Among other remits are the following: That the Arbitration Act be amended to provide that encinedrivers shall be governed by the Enginedrivers' Award irrespective of the trade or industry in which they are engaged (Auckland);" that conference considers the question of financial appeals and the action of the federal tion and unions in the event of strike* (Canterbury)..
