MB. HOLMAN IN LONDON.
VISIT TO ITALY AND FRANCE.
"WAR WILL BE PROLONGED."
LONDON, June 12. Ma. W. A. Holman, Premier of New South Wales, arrived in London last night, having travelled through Italy and France. He expects to remain in London at least three months. He will visit the front later.
In an interview, Mr. Holman said he saw Generals Foch and Humbert, and both were prepared for the prolongation of the war. Also they were most confident of victory. The people were full of fight and determination to win.
The Australians, he said, axe gradually impressing the bulk of Frenchmen, particulafly after their victory at Bullecourt. Their wonderful stand there attracted great attention. Striking evidence that the French were not exhausted was given by General Humbert, who said that no French under the age of 19 were in the trenches. In every cattle Germans of 18 or 19 were captured. The one anxiety of France was the position of Russia. Wellinformed people were generally hopeful. Mr. Holman added that what he had seen in France made him regret more profoundly than ever the rejection of. conscription. Australian troops-had done so well that the Australian nation was receiving more credit than it deserved.
