MANUFACTURE OF TWEED. (Prom the HEBIiD of Juno 8, 1867.) A corbesponpext writes —It is a flatter of yery great surprise that the capitalists of Auckland do not form a company for the manufacture of tweed. They should not allow Nelson to outstrip them in the production of a material far better in quality than most of the imported tweeds, The tailors of this city are not able to gat sufficient Nelson tweed to meet the requirements of those who have tried it and found it in every way suitable for hard wear. A greater reason for the commence. ment of this industry is the fact that many thousands of pounds would be kept in the province instead of sending it away. |
