A DEFINITE ARRANGEMENT. %
OTHER DEPARTMENTAL APPEALS.

WELLINGTON. Thursday. The position of the Railway Department in regard to the exemption of its servants was discussed before the First Wellington Military Service Board today. .Mr. McVilly, assistant general manager of railways, appeared in respect of the rail, way men drawn by ballot and agri-ed to the following arrangement, read by Cap. tain Walker, military representative: —
"Mr. McVilly withdraws the appals of 108 fit men. and those appeals will be dig. missed. Fourteen men who appealed per* sonally can proceed with their appeals and as far as the Department is concerned, we get the men whose appeals are disallowed. VVe get 56 volunteers, all of whom are in the first division. They or their substitutes have to go into camp at the end of this month. If any are rejected or other. wise we cannot get them, the Depart. ment will supply us with men to fill their places. The men are to gu iiuo camp this month without asking for leave." Adjournments sine die were made in the case of a number of police constables for whom Commissioner O'Dunovan apl pealed. Appeals for several wireless operators were also adjourned sine die and the ap. peal of a fireman on the ground of pubfio interest was allowed.
