NURSES' EXAMINATION.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES.

Thb board appointed to examine the nurses in the Auckland Hospital reported to the Hospital Board last night that there were 19 candidates in the first-year class. Of these five passed with distinction, four were classed as good, and six gained sufficient marks to secure a pass. In regard to second-year nurses, 1 the board retorted that the results of the examinations; in'medical and surgical nursing were satisfactory. Seven third-vear nurses gained over 76 per cent of the total.marks. Nurse Mactier was selected as the gold medallist, and Nurse Moore, who had gained honours marks, and was near Nurse Mactier, was recommended for a prize of books. Both nurses had worked well throughout their training. The report was adopted.

Second year: Nurses Morales, Mackay, Palmer, Clark, Livermore, Hunt, Pickens, Wvllie, Murphy, ' Battersby, Theet, Ruff, Yorke, Matheson Moynehau, Green,, Ansenne, Gray. Third year: Nurses Mactier, Moore, Oouolaud, Black, Westneat,, Fry, Andrews, Boss, Bigbio, Lee, and McEven. The first seven thirdyear nurses passed with honours.

A shocking accident occurred at Millerton, Westport, this week, resulting in the death in the Westport Hospital of Elsie May Williams, aged five years and eight months. A party of children obtained possession of a box of matches, went into tho bush, and lit a fire. Bv some means the < little girl, Williams's clothes becamo ignited. Sne ran away, her clothes were destroyed, and she was very badly burnt. Her condition was hopeless when fihe was admitted to the hospital.
